The Strangford Bay Alpaca's

If you are looking for an up close and personal experience with Alpaca’s near Downpatrick Northern Ireland, The Strangford Bay Alpacas, are the perfect group to work with. Enjoy meet and greet options as well as group and private walking tours that the whole family will love!

Alpaca Meet and Greet

If you want to get up and close with the alpacas, Stangford Bay Alpacas gives you the opportunity to meet the friendly creatures. During this time you get to feed them and give them a little cuddle!

This option is suitable for all ages, they just encourage that smaller kids are closely supervised around the alpacas. Children under 2 years old do not need a ticket. The experience will last for approx 45 minutes.

Private Walking Tour - What To Expect

In addition to the meet and greet option, there is also a private walking tour option. The experience is located on the outskirts of Strangford village on a beautiful estate with gardens sweeping down to the sea.

Beginning in the field, you will learn some interesting facts about the alpacas and then be introduced to your new friend who will be with you throughout the walk. You will dander through the estate gardens, taking in the scenery (if you can take your eyes off your alpaca!) until we reach our halfway point at the bottom of garden with amazing views up the lough, there are many photo opportunities here. Alpaca's love a splash in the sea so if the tide is right you can take them down for a dip and a laugh at their antics!

The walk continues around the pond and back towards the field where you will get to hand feed your alpaca, and all the others, with their favorite treats while taking as many photos as you want and asking any final questions you may have. The whole experience lasts on average 1.5 hours.

The walking tours are available through spring, summer & autumn months.

There is a toilet available on site and hand washing/sanitizing in the field. The Strangford Bay Alpaca Tours are a 5 minute drive into Strangford village which offers various restaurants, bars and shops - why not make a day of it!

Additional Pieces To Know:

  • Alpacas are herd animals so we need to take them out in groups of 3

  • Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket who is responsible for their safety around the alpacas (they can help the child to lead the alpaca).

  • All under 18s visiting the farm must be accompanied by an adult.

  • If there is more than 9 in your group, get in touch for cheaper rates and to book.

  • Everyone attending the farm must have a paying ticket, unfortunately we can not accommodate people that are not taking part.

  • Some parts of the walk are over rough terrain and we are walking for around 40-50 minutes. If you are not sure you would be able to complete the walk, we have a bench where you can relax and enjoy the view until we get back. You will still be able to take part in the rest of the experience. Please get in touch if you need further information on the difficulty of the terrain.
