Jessica Kartalija Headshot

Jessica Kartalija’s career has been defined by a passion for storytelling and a dedication to helping others connect through impactful communication. As a seasoned news anchor, Jessica mastered the art of engaging audiences, sharing complex information, and conveying compelling narratives under the pressure of a fast-paced newsroom. Those years of experience in front of the camera taught her invaluable skills in public speaking and audience connection—skills she now uses to empower others through her media consulting business, Storyology Media. By starting Storyology, Jessica found a new way to leverage her broadcast background, helping clients craft their narratives and navigate their own communication challenges.

Career Highlights: Passing the Torch to Future Journalists

One of Jessica’s proudest career moments came when she was asked to teach journalism at Villanova University. Transitioning from a journalist to an educator, she now has the privilege of shaping the next generation of journalists, sharing insights from her years in the field and instilling in her students a love for storytelling. “I am honored that my career has led me to teaching,” she shares. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to pass on what I’ve learned to young, aspiring journalists.”

Inspiration Rooted in Family: A Father’s Dedication to Education

Jessica’s biggest inspiration comes from her father, who has spent over 40 years as a professor. Growing up in a coal mining town, he became one of the first in his family to attend college, going on to earn his master’s degree and PhD. “His vision and love for education have always inspired me,” Jessica says. Watching her father’s commitment to learning and teaching has deeply influenced her own values and her approach to life and work.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Build from the Ground Up

Jessica knows firsthand that building a successful business takes time, hard work, and a willingness to learn from setbacks. Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Be prepared to pay your dues. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and a strong business is built on hard work and resilience. Take time to gain experience, understand your industry, and build a solid reputation.” She emphasizes that if creating a successful business were easy, everyone would do it—and the key is to offer something truly unique.

The Art of Storytelling: What Makes a Good Story?

At the heart of Jessica’s work is the belief that a good story, when told effectively, leaves a lasting impact on the listener. To her, the best stories are the ones that convey a powerful message in a way that’s both memorable and meaningful. Whether she’s coaching clients on public speaking or helping them refine their messaging, Jessica is dedicated to helping others find their voice and tell their stories in a way that resonates.

Favorite Storytellers Who’ve Made an Impact

Jessica’s role models in storytelling are some of journalism’s most iconic figures, including Christiane Amanpour, Lisa Myers, and Nina Totenberg. These journalists have each made history through their dedication to sharing important news stories with integrity and depth. Jessica admires their ability to shed light on complex issues, and they serve as a constant source of inspiration in her own work.

Through Storyology Media, Jessica Kartalija is shaping the way people tell their stories, equipping them with the tools to connect, inspire, and make an impact. Her journey from news anchor to media consultant and educator is a testament to the power of storytelling and the lasting influence it can have on individuals and communities alike.
