In this interview, Newry artist, Frankie B, shares her Journey of Artistic Renewal: From Corporate Life to Creative Entrepreneurship.
Frankie, what is your passion and how did it turn into your career?
From the earliest days of my memory, the spark of creativity has always burned within me. I firmly believe that all children possess an innate ability to create art, an instinct that precedes even the development of speech. As for me, I've managed to keep this creative flame alive well into adulthood. After spending a decade abroad in Australia, diligently fulfilling the role of an Area Manager for a menswear brand, I began to sense that I was merely going through the motions, not truly living. It was during this period that I rediscovered my passion for painting, which had lain dormant since my days as a Fashion and Textile Design graduate. Something profound clicked within me, prompting me to take a leap of faith—quitting my job to follow my artistic calling, as cliché as it might sound. The concept of "Paint and Sip" emerged during a casual gathering with friends at my home in Sydney, marking the inception of a novel and enjoyable idea. From this moment, my curiosity about this unique fusion of art and social interaction led to the development of a business plan. Night after night, I immersed myself in the world of painting, experimenting with various styles, from the abstract beauty of Acrylic Pour to the timeless charm of landscapes and seascapes. The more I created, the more my imagination flowed, birthing an array of fresh ideas. An impromptu visit back to Ireland for Christmas led to a pivotal conversation with my father. He persuaded me to give my newfound business venture in Ireland a year-long chance, with the promise that if it didn't work out, I could always return to Sydney. The rest, as they say, is history.
What is your favorite business in Ireland?
Since returning to Ireland four years ago, I've had the privilege of collaborating with a range of remarkable businesses. Among them, Two Stacks Whiskey, based in my hometown of Newry, stands out. Its founders, Shane, Liam, and Donal, have breathed new life into Irish Whiskey, adopting a fresh and youthful approach. They've achieved remarkable success, from crafting their whiskey blends to global sales, and even offering whiskey tasting experiences at their bonding warehouse. Their collaborations with local artists like myself have pushed the boundaries of both whiskey and art.To check out this collaboration check it out at www.frankieb.co.uk
Tell us about a favorite memory in your career?
Reflecting on my art career, it's challenging to pinpoint a single defining moment, but I can certainly highlight my top three achievements:
Making my first international art sale in the United States marked a significant turning point, igniting my excitement about the future of my artwork.
The establishment of my art studio and gallery in Northern Ireland, a versatile creative space where individuals can not only purchase my artwork but also explore different art practices and mediums through my workshops. **To check out my up-coming workshops you can find these at www.artstudio23.co.uk
The honour of being shortlisted for Young Businesswoman of the Year and receiving recognition as the Most Innovative Business of 2023 served as a thrilling and gratifying moment in my journey as both an artist and a business owner.
What makes Ireland such a special place for a creative?
Ireland, encompassing both the North and the South, offers a boundless source of inspiration with its rich history, diverse culture, and warm-hearted people. From mystical folklore to awe-inspiring cliffs, serene lakes, magnificent castles, lush countryside, and ancient monuments, every facet of this enchanting land fuels my artistic passion.Indeed, Ireland's welcoming embrace is a constant source of inspiration, making it the perfect backdrop for creating the next masterpiece.
