Andrew Arcangeli: Weaving Dreams with Lines and Laughter

Meet Andrew Arcangeli, a professional storyboard artist, illustrator, voiceover artist, and video editor, whose creative journey has been shaped by a childhood fascination with drawing and a passion for storytelling. In this exclusive feature, Andrew shares insights into his artistic origins, his inspirations, and the dream that propels his creative pursuits.

Origins and Encouragement:

Andrew's artistic journey began in preschool, where he sketched the outline of a lizard with chalk. His parents' encouragement played a crucial role, allowing him to skip nap time in kindergarten to draw—a testament to their unwavering support. His childhood interests in monsters, comics, movies, and anime continue to influence his professional path.

Inspirational Japan:

Japan, with its iconic style and minimalist approach, serves as Andrew's most inspiring destination. The country's use of cartoons to convey messages and its distinct aesthetic, seen in fashion, architecture, and media, deeply resonate with his artistic sensibilities. As a regular visitor to Japan, Andrew finds endless inspiration in its unique cultural tapestry.

Professional Aspirations:

While executive producer dreams once filled his thoughts, Andrew's current professional goal is simple yet profound: to create something of his own that he is genuinely proud of. This shift reflects a desire to trust his creative instincts fully and to craft work that resonates on a personal level, irrespective of commercial success or corporate ownership.

Creative Influences:

Andrew draws inspiration from manga creators like Akira Toriyama and Eiichiro Oda, as well as artists like Canar Muro. He admires storytelling comedians such as Patrice O'Neal and Joey Diaz, recognizing the power of compelling narratives. Square Enix's presentation style and the aesthetic of mid-'90s hip-hop, particularly Tribe Called Quest and Wu-Tang Clan, also influence his work.

Looking Ahead:

The future, as Andrew candidly admits, is uncertain, especially in the unpredictable landscape of today's world. However, he envisions himself doing what he loves—creating. Drawing comics, doing voiceovers, and bringing joy through humor are at the forefront of his vision. Contentment and gratitude for opportunities are the guiding principles that shape his aspirations.

Acknowledgment and Plugs:

Andrew expresses his gratitude to Outside the Box Productions for the interview opportunity. He takes a moment to plug a children's book collaboration, "Tot the Talented Otter," a heartwarming story about an otter with dyslexia, featuring his beautiful illustrations. As he signs off, Andrew extends appreciation to the audience and invites them to explore this delightful otter tale.

In a world where creativity is both a journey and destination, Andrew Arcangeli stands as an artist who not only sketches lines on paper but weaves dreams, laughter, and narratives that resonate with the soul.
